Last night I went through the rite of passage with a classic car, tough starting the car in the cold, dash lights flicking on and off randomly, slightly rough running at certain points then ending up with breaking down on the outskirts of my home town, not entirely sure of the fault yet but believe it to be an electrical issue.

An electrical issue on an old British car I hear you gasp? I know such a shocking and completely unexpected thing to happen...

Does this mean I’m now a fully fledged classic car owner?

Yes it does. My dad’s 1988 Pontiac Firebird TransAm GTA is always messing up in one way or another. The most recent issues being an electrical issue and it doesn’t pass smog.

one day with my diplomat it drove me to my destination, died, refused to start when it was time to go home, and then started fine an hour and a half later when the flatbed showed up to tow it home, i had the tow truck load it up even though it would start just cause i was that frustrated with it.

Thanks, that’s one of the main reasons why I chose orange due to the fact it’s a fairly rare colour

No, the blue smoke is still contained, it does let out some black smoke when on the power though

I did try it again just as I saw the recovery truck coming up the road just in case but nope, it refused to start

If it was a Smart I’d say it was the SAM or a bad e arth but in this case..... could still be a bad earth.

that’s a good chance of it being an earthing issue
